BEIJING - China's index of export container transport went up last month, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) stood at 965.7 last month, up 9.9 percent from that of August, according to the exchange.

The sub-reading for the South America service led the growth with a month-on-month increase of 51.1 percent, followed by those for the South Africa and west coast of America routes, which climbed 24.3 percent and 13.6 percent respectively from the previous month.

The CCFI tracks spot and contractual freight rates from Chinese container ports for 12 shipping routes across the globe, based on data from 22 international carriers.

The index was set at 1,000 on Jan 1, 1998.
